Terrorvision

IMDB reported today that U.S. Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist has succeeded in securing Senate approval for new broadcast indecency legislation, which will increase the maximum fine 10-times to $325,000 for each violation.
The bill must now be reconciled with one already passed by the House, both of which have been strongly opposed by broadcasters.
Market Watch quoted Frist as saying: “The Senate took a great step forward tonight to protect children and families from offensive images broadcast directly into their living rooms ... Parents should be able to watch television with their children without worrying about exposing them to unsuitable content."
You know what else was a great step toward “protecting children” from the horrors of television? THE POWER BUTTON!
I try not to speak out on too many issues, but it is the responsibility of parents and parents alone to monitor what their kids are watching and act accordingly, not the government.
I am sick and tired of these indecency laws, which are designed to “protect people” from their own laziness. They will not, and I repeat will not, protect anyone from anything; they will only make the cost of producing standard, advertiser driven network programming skyrocket.
Then everyone will be protected from these FREE shows broadcasted directly into the home, because all television shows will be too expensive to produce. ALL OF THEM — from Sesame Street to Sex and the City! There is no law stating you have to own and operate a television, and there should be no law governing its content either.
