Lionsgate keeps churning out the hits

Crank, a film one person on Internet Movie Database described as Grand Theft Auto on the big screen, came in second this weekend at the box office.
Starring Jason Statham, of Transporter 1 and 2, and Amy Smart, of Road Trip, the film managed to gross $13 million, just $2 mil shy of the film's budget.
Lionsgate has had a big string of indie hits, including Saw 1 and 2 (and 3 in the fall), Open Water, Fahrenheit 9/11, the Oscar-winning Crash, and Diary of a Mad Black Woman.
The formula is simple. Make a good film, on a low budget, and release it.
Hollywood, you could learn something from this!
In fact, with so many hits behind them in the last couple of years along, Lionsgate may be the indie studio to watch.
Something's working for them. Something indeed.
Of course, Crank couldn't do enough business to beat out Disney's Invincible.
Nicholas Cage's The Wicker Man failed to wow audiences, pulling in a mere $9.6 mil.
Then there's Snakes on a Plane, which fell completely out of the top 12, below Beerfest. D' oh!
