A review Nelly Furtado’s “Loose”

While it is the title of her latest release, Loose is also a great way to describe world-music popstar Nelly Furtado’s new CD - released on Tuesday. It’s unsteady, with shaky results.
Furtado was first introduced to the world as an anti-Britney, which makes this CD — full of urban dance rhythms and booty beats — so confusing.
After the success of her first CD, “Whoa, Nelly” Furtado returned with “Folklore,” an interesting and successful foray into world music. The CD separated Furtado from the anti-brit pack, including Vanessa Carlton and Michelle Branch, and it appeared she was destined to show the world she was a talent to be reckoned with.
I don’t know what happened, but Loose is as step in the wrong direction.
The songs aren’t bad, especially the first single Promiscuous featuring Timberland and the Latin dance track No Hay Igual, but they completely lack substance.I’m assuming Furtado’s last CD flopped, except with the less-than-coveted NPR and PBS crowds, and she is attempting to regain some market share, but Loose is a mess. It’s fun to listen to, but it’s completely disposable.
