I think I have to read more

It hit me this morning. I was surfing around the TV, switching between national and Milwaukee news, before hitting the Internet. I've been trying to line up groups for Podcast #5 and keep up on the latest entertainment news.
I jumped on the Internet Movie Database and Yahoo News, read about the film festivals in NYC and how Nicole Kidman is getting married, and so on.
Then I went to MySpace to see if any bands had confirmed, one has - cool, and looked for some other acts (by the way, as a music promotion tool nothing is better than MySpace).
Then I checked out the headlines just to see what's going on in the world.
Somewhere in there though I started thinking.
It has been a long time since I read an entire book, from cover to cover. Oh, I've started plenty, but I haven't finished a book in a long time. I even have library fines on books, and I couldn't tell you what they are about.
I read all of the time, but reading has become a test of speed. I hit blogs, look for news snippits, and check out what people are talking about. But nothing of any length.
To be honest, I can't remember the last book I finished reading. It has to have been a couple of years.
I know that lots of books are sold, but are you busy people out there in the same boat I'm in? Are you finishing the books you're buying? Reading almost seems like a lost art form, at least for me.
So I decided that I'm going to read a book. I have no idea which one, but it won't be a book on home repairs or a tech manual. It will be a novel.
Reading for fun...how novel.
