Bye bye beer. I'm thinking iPod.

According to an AP story, the iPod music player by Apple Computer Inc. surpassed beer drinking as the most “in” thing among undergraduate college students,
Nearly three quarters, or 73 percent, of 1,200 students surveyed in the latest biannual market research study by Ridgewood, N.J.-based Student Monitor said iPods were “in” — more than any other item in a list that also included text messaging, bar hopping and downloading music, the story said.
Though to be fair, students did not rate Toga parties, signing up for 40 credit cards to get a T-shirt and reading Mad Mad Media.
This is only the second time in the 18 years of the survey beer has been dethroned. In 1997, the Internet took top “in” honors.
